Dawn McCarthy Announces Retirement
A Message from Dawn McCarthy:
After more than a decade serving as a volunteer on the Milwaukee Preservation Alliance board of directors I am retiring! Please accept my deep gratitude to all our donors, members, friends and volunteers for making Milwaukee Preservation Alliance possible, and all that it is today. We have finally moved from an all-volunteer organization to a preservation advocacy organization with a full-time executive director and a part-time associate! Much of MPA’s work is behind the scenes and not particularly visible. We spend time in meetings with decision makers, educating our community about the significant reasons our architectural heritage should be restored and our history preserved, including the significant economic and environmental benefits that accrue from using buildings that already exist. We spend hours at community and government meetings for the opportunity to address elected representatives. We spend time researching – who is the owner of the building, what is the zoning, what are the plans, what are the legal mechanisms that will enable a public conversation. As you can imagine, this type of work doesn’t generate revenue. But it is critical work. It’s important that our members and supporters understand why having full-time professional staff is critical and why I’m going to ask each of you to do your best to continue to support MPA, with your memberships and donations, but also by making introductions to potential sponsors, donors, new board members and grant opportunities. This work has been very rewarding, bringing me many good times, good friends, and successful results. I can’t thank you all enough. Please stay in touch, and please keep supporting Milwaukee Preservation Alliance. Gratefully, Dawn McCarthy |
